Melissa is a British-American programmer, astronomer, and writer. She currently works at digital consultancy Red Badger where she helps clients build lovely web experiences with ReactJS. Beginning coding with Lego robotics at age 9, Melissa programmed throughout high school, and earned her BA in computer science and physics at Macalester College in 2014. Inspired by her own experiences in tech, she studied Wikipedia’s gender gap and language hostility among its editors. She also dabbled in astronomy research, writing algorithms to measure the luminosity of dwarf galaxies, for which she won the Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award in 2013. Although she still loves chatting about space, Melissa moved to software engineering and consulting upon joining ThoughtWorks San Francisco in 2014. In early 2016 she moved across the pond to London. In her free time she loves taking long walks around the city, baking, writing poetry, and singing with Goldsmiths Choral Union.
